In 1979, John Walmsley received a grant from the Scottish Arts Council to live and work on the Wester Hailes housing scheme on the western edge of Edinburgh. As well as the photographs, this book includes people's modern-day reminiscences of living there at the time. It was tough but the community spirit was great and they all said how good the teachers were at the newly built Education Centre.
