FORBIDDEN LAND EXHIBITION ZINE
FORBIDDEN LAND EXHIBITION ZINE
PBC
Photobook Cafe and Rapid Eye Darkrooms are excited to launch our new quarterly Open Call series, beginning with the theme Forbidden Land. Join us in exploring the forbidden landscapes that shape our world through this publication and exhibition.
Inspiration
The theme responds to Legendary British Photographer Fay Godwin, and her collections of photographic and literary catalogs, on the Governing Policies of land ownership within British Landscapes. Godwin had both a sophisticated landscape practice, addressing rural topics or regions, and a socialist and active environmentalist stand, revealing footprints of mankind’s occupation and intervention on British Land.
A collection of Fay’s books from the Photobook Cafe archive are on display in the gallery.
Submissions
We invited photographers of all levels to respond to the theme Forbidden Land through images that delve into the intersection of public and private space within our landscapes.
The selection of 21 photographers from our open call are exhibited within these pages and we feel that this selection of photographers, from an outstanding collection of submissions, best fits our selected theme.
We would like to thank everyone for their submissions to this open call and for the support of Rapid Eye Darkroom for the printing of the work and to our guest judge, Giles Price. Who worked alongside Photobook Cafe Gallery curators Matt Martin and Alice Campos.
Zine is 10x8in with red hand stitch.
Grand Prize: Photographer Peter Ian Campbell was our judge, Giles Price’s selected
winner, awarded with a year’s membership to Rapid Eye Darkrooms
(valued at over £360).
